Welcome to the Grade 2 Smarties Home Page!

It is my pleasure to welcome both you and your child to Grade 2 this year. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing.

This is my third year at Nose Creek Elementary and my eleventh year teaching. I previously taught at Indus School and Prairie Waters Elementary School.

I currently live in Airdrie with my husband Rob and our children Jasey and Jaxon. Jasey is fourteen years old and going and our son Jaxon is six. We also have a lovely dog named Blue.

Grade 2 Curriculum

Please refer to the curriculum link on the links page.

Our Classroom

There are 24 students in our classroom divided into teams.  Students will have access to shared supplies and their own personal supplies.

Rules and Responsibilities

As a class we will decide what rules and responsibilities are important in our classroom. This will be a contract all students will sign and communicate with parents. Students will have an opportunity to earn gems for positive choices, and will lose them for poor choices. More serious behaviors will be communicated with parents and the principal if deemed necessary.

Classroom Teams

Students have been placed in teams within the classroom. Each team has come up with a unique team names. There are different leaders every day to help make decisions and pass out materials throughout the day. Your child will have opportunities to work as a team, with a partner or independently.

Students have the chance to earn gems in the classroom. At the end of the day teams can trade in their gems for special rewards such “stuffy day”, or 10 minutes of free time.

Snack time

We will have a short snack during the morning every day. Please try to ensure the snack is easy to eat and nutritious.

Important days to remember

We participate in physical activity for 30 minutes every day. Please make sure your child has appropriate dress and shoes.

Art day is usually on Wednesday. Please send an Art shirt with your child.

Library book exchange is Thursdays. Our home reading program is ongoing and students will be exchanging these books on a regular basis.

As a school we budget enough supplies for your child. If there are other items needed a note will be sent home. Your child will need indoor and outdoor shoes. Please also send a set of headphones. Notes will be left in the agenda for specific items we may need throughout the year.

I understand that there is limited time and families are busy. I do ask that students attempt to set aside 20 minutes for home reading and sight word practice each night. A duotang will be sent home outlining these programs.

Parent volunteers

We love volunteers! Please send me a note via email, note in agenda or phone to set up what works for you.. Duties will include reading and working with students, preparing or dismantling bulletin boards, cutting, gluing, photocopying, stapling and many other jobs.. All parent volunteers must have a current criminal record check on file with the office before volunteering in the classroom.

Important information is communicated through your child’s agenda. We attempt to write a small “discussion starter” in the agenda every day.  Please read and sign your child’s agenda every day. Communication between us is very important and please do not hesitate to write a note in the agenda, phone me at the school at  (403) 945-1001 or email me at jstevens@rockyview.ab.ca.

I look forward to the wonderful year ahead!

With kind regards,

Mrs. Jamie Stevens
