5 Finger Check
5 FINGER CHECK
We have learned how to use the 5 finger check to choose books. To pick a book, we open it to any page in the book and start reading. Every time we can’t read a word we put a finger up.
1 finger = YES, this book is good, maybe a little easy
2 fingers = YES, this book is perfect, with a little challenge
3 fingers = OK, this book will be a challenge but I could try it because I know most of the words. I might need help.
4 fingers = NO, this book is to difficult for me right now, but I will try it at another time or ask someone to read it to me
5 fingers = NO!, this book is way to hard right now and I will ask some one to read it to me
Please use this strategy to choose books with your children. This strategy also applies to home reading. All home reading books should be a 1 or 2 finger book.
