All About Mrs. Koop

Dear Parents,

I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year and am excited about all the wonderful learning experiences we will embark upon together.

I have been teaching for over 20 years.  I have taught Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 3, Grade 5 and Junior High.  I also have been a learning support teacher.

Grade 1 is a very important year.   It is the year that provides the students with a more structured approach to education, which will allow each student to take ownership of their own learning and development. I make it my purpose to create an environment that helps every child develop a positive self-concept and a feeling that he/she is valuable.

I firmly believe that you, as parents, are the first and most important educators of your children and feel that it is important that support in learning is provided at home as well as at school. The most effective way to do this is to encourage your child to read at home. Reading is the underlying factor to success in all areas of the curriculum.  If a child can read competently they are already halfway there. Home Reading books will be provided regularly for you and your child to enjoy at home.

I truly want your child to get the best out of his/her educational journey.   I cannot stress too strongly the need for good communication between home and school.  Please do not hesitate to call me about any question or information you might have that will benefit your child.   I will do likewise.
