Classroom Information

Communication

We are strong believers in open and frequent communication with parents.  Please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher should you have any concerns.  On the same note, we will contact you to express a concern or simply to let you know about the sunshine your child brings to our day.  If your child is having difficulty with the transition into kindergarten we will probably be speaking with you on a daily basis until the issue is resolved. As much as we can provide it, peace of mind is everything!

Items to Send

Kindergarten students need a pair of indoor running shoes that they can put on and take off by themselves.  Shoes with a velcro tab are usually the easiest for students to manage independently.  Indoor shoes will be stored in the classroom.

Key items to send on a daily basis include:

1)     a large backpack

2)     a nutritious snack

3)    a bottle of water

4)    the agenda

Change of Clothes

Accidents do happen!  If you worry that your child might have a bathroom accident at school, please feel free to place an alternate set of clothing in their backpack for emergencies.  We do have a few spare pants and shirts, but the style and fit might not be perfect.  We do not provide underwear.

Label, Label, Label

We would like to encourage you to put your child’s name on running shoes and boots.  There are usually two or three pairs that have the same design and the same size.

Agendas

Each child in our class will receive an agenda with their name written on the front. This is the key to communicating with you in regards to concepts taught in class, as well as a way of sending home notices about upcoming events.  Please take the time to check and empty the pouch located at the front of the agenda every day.  Any items, such as permission forms, should be completed and sent back in the same place.

Notices

The beginning of the school year is particularly heavy on paperwork.  Any time there are permission/information forms sent home, we strongly encourage you to complete and return them as soon as possible.

Newsletter and Calendar of Events

Prior to the beginning of each month we will be sending home a newsletter and a calendar of events.  Please post this in a convenient location.  It will contain all the important activities for the month, suggested snacks, as well as show and tell items and Social Studies presentation dates.

Exit and Entry

1)     Students are to enter and exit through the west doors of the school.  Due to the kindergarten students’ enthusiasm for seeing their parents it would be GREATLY appreciated if you would wait for your child outside.

2)    Students are dismissed one at a time at their assigned doors. Students have been instructed to remain with their teacher as they wait for the individual picking them up after school.  This allows the teachers ensure that the students are safely picked up.

3)    Should your child arrive late for school, please enter by the front doors and stop at the office to inform them of your arrival.

Missing a School Day

If your child is away from school for any reason, please take a moment to inform us in advance through an agenda note or call the attendance line.   Please note:  The attendance line number is different from the school number.  Call 403-945-1001.  We are always concerned if we cannot account for a child’s absence from school.

Taking the Bus

At the September Open House there will be a sheet for parents to provide us with bus information. If your child is taking the bus, we will have a teacher or teaching assistant walk your child to the bus and ensure they get to the bus safely.

Birthdays

We know birthdays are a special time for children. Please do not send any food, as we have many different types of allergies in our classrooms.  We will still celebrate birthdays in our classroom and make it a special day for your child.

An additional note: If you are sending birthday invitations, please do so outside of school time or hand them to a teacher and we will distribute them discreetly to avoid any hurt feelings.

Names and Phone Numbers

Due to the Privacy Act we cannot hand out any student’s names and phone numbers for play dates and birthday parties.  In addition, please inform us if any of your contact phone numbers change!
