Guided Reading
Guided Reading allows the teacher to work with small groups, using levelled books to enhance their reading.
Purposes of Guided Reading
- To allow students to be exposed to a range of print materials (eg. fiction, non-fiction, chants, rhymes).
- To teach comprehension and contextual word recognition strategies
- To emphasize reading as a problem solving activity and to focus students on self-monitoring
- To move children progressively from easy to harder reading materials (eg. Permit students to read at their Instructional Reading Levels as they develop competence as readers).
